Somenos House is a confidential 24-hour staffed program that provides temporary shelter and crisis support for women and children impacted by violence. We have openings for 2 casual staff. The ideal applicants are skilled crisis support workers with in depth awareness of the dynamics and impact of violence against women. Socially aware, they are also highly collaborative, emotionally mature, reliable, and use a trauma informed strength-based approach when working with vulnerable people. The ability to develop and nurture relationships across diverse cultures, ethnicities, gender identities, and ages is critical. In depth awareness of how colonialism has impacted Indigenous communities and people, and the ability to use a holistic (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) approach to enhance women's and their children's wellbeing is essential. Skills to work with individuals who may use substances, self-harm, or experience other health concerns are important. In addition to crisis and practical support, staff assist with daily tasks to support program operations, and activities that support the health and visibility of the program and the agency. Other qualifications include a combination of education in a human services field and experience providing crisis counselling. Transition House experience is an asset. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team is required. A criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations, valid Class 5 Drivers License, and current First Aid (Level C with CPR) is required. Close proximity to Duncan is an asset. Availability: We require a commitment to keep strong availability for shifts Monday through Friday. Day shift is 8 am - 4 pm; Bridging shift is 11 - 7 pm; Afternoon shift is 3:15 - 11:15 pm; Overnight shift is 10:30 pm - 8:30 am.
