Heavy Truck & Trailer Mechanic

Central Island Distributorshas been a Vancouver Island based General Freight Company since 1992 with branches in Nanaimo, Victoria and Delta. Our Nanaimo Terminal has a well-equipped shop to service our fleet. We are seeking a skilled Heavy Truck/Trailer Mechanic for our Nanaimo Terminal to keep our diverse fleet of trucks and trailers safe and in good repair. A red seal ticket is not required if your experience demonstrates your ability to perform the following: We require someone with the following skills and knowledge: -Good communication and record keeping skills -Good diagnostic skills with regards to all truck systems, (Air, Hydraulic, Fuel, and Electrical). -Experience in minor fabrication including welding. -Good knowledge of modern EGR, DPF, and SCR emissions systems. -Ability to inspect and repair to ensure truck condition meets or exceeds Company and Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVI) criteria. -Ability to organize and prioritize some of the shop workflow through good communication with Management, Dispatch and Drivers. -Ability to keep repairs cost effective. You will be required to: -Preform Preventative Maintenance Services on Trucks and Trailers. -Preform minor repairs, such as repair and/or RE&RE of lights, air system components, starters, alternators, batteries, hoses, belts, trailer doors, power tailgates, brake service and replacement etc. -Order and co-ordinate parts as required. -Some minor fabricating and welding. -Preferred candidates will also have experience with forklift maintenance and repair. -You will be required to provide you own basic hand tools, the shop is otherwise well equipped.
