Breadbasket has been part of the marine landscape on B.C.'s Salish Sea since 1947. She is a riveted steel double ender built by Welin Davit and Boat Corp in Perth Amboy, New Jersey in 1947 and served as a 26' Lifeboat on the Sechelt Queen for many years. After retirement she was refurbished in Sidney by John Lovatt shipwright in 1987: adding the wheelhouse, top deck, insulated fish hold, 120 Ford Lehman diesel engine and hydraulic steering and winches. The former owners used her both for recreationally and commercially for 25 years in the Southern Gulf Island waters. She was designed to serve as a Crabber (thus the forward insulated hold) and was used for that purpose for several years. When Pender Island was being developed, she was used to transport explosives to the homesites that were being cleared. The current owner has owned her since 2013. She is stored on the hard every winter. This classic is a must see to appreciate her history.
